PCC Confident of Higher Vote Share After Peaceful Poll: Saha

Agartala, 12 April 2026 — Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Asish Kumar Saha said on Sunday that the Congress expects an increase in its vote share in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections compared with 2021. He framed the prediction as a sign of improving support for the party in tribal areas.

Saha reported several polling-day incidents, saying that party agents were barred from entering some polling stations, particularly in Machmara and Kanchanpur. He also said that “in some places, after the voting process, technical glitches were reported in some EVMs in parts of constituencies, which were later fixed and replaced, and the voting process was started again.”

Acknowledging organisational weaknesses in the TTAADC, Saha noted that the mainstream Congress organisation has not been strong in the council area but credited the Tripura Congress and the Adivasi Congress for on-the-ground work. “As per reports, out of 1,257 booths, we have appointed polling agents in over 500 booths,” he said, calling that presence “a positive sign for our organisational base.”

On the wider electoral landscape, Saha observed that the Tipra Motha Party has mobilised its strength in many places but said the polling had been peaceful so far. Reflecting optimism about participation, he added: “We can say that in this year’s vote, voter percentage will increase.”
