LSG Make Bold Move: Sign George Linde to Replace Injured Hasaranga
New Delhi, April 10 — Lucknow Super Giants have signed South African all-rounder George Linde as a replacement for Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League after suffering a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s opening match of this year’s T20 World Cup. Hasaranga had been bought by LSG for Rs 2 crore.
Linde, 33, is a left-handed batting all-rounder who bowls slow left‑arm orthodox. He has represented South Africa in three Tests, four ODIs and 37 T20 Internationals, scoring 403 runs and taking 35 wickets in T20Is. The 33‑year‑old has played in more than 250 T20 matches across global leagues and domestic competitions.
This will be Linde’s maiden IPL stint; he will join the franchise at his base price of Rs 1 crore.
The signing adds depth to LSG’s all‑round resources and brings a different skill set to the side. While Hasaranga’s absence removes a proven match‑winner, Linde’s left‑arm spin and lower‑order batting offer balance and flexibility-particularly on surfaces that assist spin. His experience across T20 circuits suggests he can adapt to varying match situations.
As the league progresses, Linde’s impact will depend on how quickly he settles into IPL conditions and the team’s combinations. If he finds form early, this replacement could prove more than a stop‑gap and influence LSG’s run in the tournament. (PTI)
