Joint Inspection Tightens Security Arrangements for PM’s Sikkim Visit
A joint inspection was conducted in and around Gangtok ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Sikkim to review and finalise logistical and administrative arrangements for the programme. The exercise aimed to ensure venues, accommodation and transport links are ready and that all required safety and coordination measures are in place.
Inspectors examined road conditions and traffic management plans, and assessed helipad and airport connectivity as well as emergency-response arrangements to minimise risks and delays during the Prime Minister’s itinerary. The team also reviewed accommodation facilities and the readiness of event venues.
Cooperation among key departments featured prominently in the inspection. Officials checked inter‑agency coordination protocols involving the police, health services, public works and the district administration to ensure a unified response during the visit. Special emphasis was placed on crowd management and communications systems to support orderly movement and rapid information flow.
The inspection team included SDM Gangtok Mahendra Chettri; Joint Chief Architect, GMC Dorjee Namgyal; JCTP, GMC Naresh Pradhan; DE, GMC Gayden Lepcha; and Sr BO, GMC Bishnu Thapa, accompanied by AMC, AE, JE and inspectors from GMC and Range Officer (Territorial) Gangtok Binod Chettri. Their review sought to finalise preparations and reduce logistical or safety gaps ahead of the Prime Minister’s programme.
