Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, 92, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2026, the hospital’s trust confirmed. According to officials, she was brought in on Saturday evening and is receiving treatment for exhaustion and a chest infection. Hospital authorities have not released further medical details.
In a post on social media platform X, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle asked for privacy, saying, “My grandmother, Asha Bhosle, due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively.” The family’s statement indicates they will provide updates as her condition evolves.
Bhosle is widely regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most versatile voices, with a career spanning several decades and an extensive repertoire across genres including ghazals, classical pieces, pop and cabaret-style numbers. Her early collaborations with composer O. P. Nayyar produced hits such as “Aao Huzoor Tumko,” while her work with R. D. Burman yielded enduring songs like “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko.” She also recorded memorable classical-tinged tracks such as “Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja,” “Yeh Mera Dil,” “In Aankhon Ki Masti” and “Dil Cheez Kya Hai,” and later adapted to changing musical trends with collaborations with A. R. Rahman on songs including “Tanha Tanha” and “Rangeela Re.”
Her contributions to Indian music have been recognised with major honours, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2000) and the Padma Vibhushan (2008). She has also won two National Film Awards for her film work, including performances in Umrao Jaan and Ijaazat. Further updates will be awaited from the family or hospital as they become available.
