West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Exposes Shocking Deletions: Community Names Vanish from Post-SIR Voter Rolls!

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised serious concerns regarding the alleged deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls in her Bhabanipur constituency. Speaking at a rally in Chakdaha, Nadia district on April 7, 2026, Banerjee accused the authorities of systematically removing names from the post-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) rolls, particularly targeting specific communities.

In her address, Banerjee emphasized the commitment of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to support voters whose names have been unjustly omitted from the updated voter lists. According to recent data from the Election Commission, approximately 9.1 million voters in West Bengal have seen their names removed as a result of the SIR process. This issue has sparked significant outcry, especially as the state gears up for critical Assembly elections in April.

Banerjee highlighted her intervention in the Supreme Court, which she claims led to the restoration of around 3.2 million names from an initial 6 million cases under adjudication. “Names were being removed from official records by targeting specific communities,” she asserted, intensifying her allegations against the electoral management.

As the electoral landscape intensifies, West Bengal’s 294-member Assembly elections are scheduled to unfold in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting set for May 4. The issues surrounding voter disenfranchisement are critical, particularly as they emerge amidst broader discussions on electoral integrity and representation in the region.

The allegations made by Banerjee come at a pivotal moment, fueling concerns over electoral fairness and the potential implications for voter turnout. As citizens prepare for the upcoming elections, the TMC’s stance on this matter may influence public perception and voter mobilization efforts.

As the situation continues to develop, the electorate in West Bengal remains vigilant, with many eyes on how this controversy will shape the political narrative leading up to the polls. The integrity of the electoral process is paramount, and Banerjee’s continued advocacy for the affected communities reflects a crucial aspect of the ongoing dialogue regarding suffrage and representation in the state.

In an era where digital engagement is paramount, the importance of ensuring every citizen’s voice is heard cannot be overstated. The TMC’s dedication to rectifying the voter roll discrepancies will not only affect political outcomes but will also influence the broader discourse on democracy and civic rights in West Bengal.
