NDA Alone Can Halt Infiltration and Demographic Shift in Assam: Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on April 3 that only the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) can free Assam of alleged infiltrators and prevent any demographic change, sharpening the alliance’s campaign pitch ahead of the state elections. Speaking at a rally in Barpeta in support of AGP candidate Dipak Kumar Das, he framed the issue as central to the coming polls and called for continued public support for the NDA.

Adityanath blamed decades of Congress rule for weakening Assam’s internal security and social fabric, saying the party had “only encouraged infiltration, violence and riots” and placed local culture and heritage under threat. He presented these assertions as evidence of the need for a strong NDA government to restore order.

He also targeted the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), accusing the party of backing infiltrators and seeking power through their support. Adityanath alleged that the Congress and AIUDF were working in tandem in ways that could “compromise the culture and heritage of the state,” language he used to warn voters about perceived risks to Assam’s identity.

Positioning the NDA as a guarantor of stability, he said the alliance would enforce law and order and take strict action against illegal entrants. “Each infiltrator will be identified and chased out,” he said, adding that the NDA would not allow “love and land jihads” or “any change in the demography.”

Highlighting governance under BJP-led administrations, Adityanath said the alliance was committed to “virasat-vikas,” which he described as combining heritage with development, and pointed to what he called a “massive transformation” in Assam over the past decade.

He also criticised the Congress over the cancellation of its Barpeta candidate’s nomination, saying the party had “fled the battlefield even before the election.” Polling for the 126-member Assam Assembly is scheduled for April 9, with counting set for May 4, making these campaign themes a key element of parties’ closing arguments to voters.
