Arunachal: Subansiri Lower Unit-4 Wet Commissioning Hits Milestone
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on April 1 hailed the commencement of wet commissioning of Unit‑4 (250 MW) at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, calling it a major milestone in India’s energy sector and a key step toward realizing what he described as the country’s largest hydropower venture. He said the move marks the transition of the project from construction to power generation.
Khandu noted that a successful mechanical run of Unit‑4 demonstrates precision, perseverance and world‑class engineering by NHPC Limited. Wet commissioning, the chief minister explained, involves testing the turbine and associated systems under water flow and operational conditions to ensure they perform safely and reliably before synchronization with the grid.
The chief minister also praised NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta and the project team for executing a complex initiative with dedication and commitment. He credited their leadership and on‑site work for achieving this phase.
Looking ahead, Khandu said the project will progress toward synchronization with the national grid and the phased commissioning of the remaining units. He said these steps will strengthen India’s push for sustainable, reliable and self‑reliant energy.
The Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, he added, is a central element of India’s renewable energy strategy and is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing power demands.
