Sikkim Secures LPG Supply: Government Ensures Smooth, Adequate Stock
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang‑Golay on Monday, March 30, 2026, chaired a high‑level review at Samman Bhawan to assess LPG stocks and the distribution of essential commodities across Sikkim, and said the state has adequate supplies with measures in place to ensure uninterrupted delivery.
The Food & Civil Supplies secretary opened the meeting with a detailed briefing on current LPG inventory and supply–demand dynamics, stressing the need for mindful, judicious and sustainable use of resources. Officials from IOCL’s Rangpo LPG bottling plant outlined existing infrastructure and supply‑chain arrangements, while the head of HPCL’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) presented a roadmap for expanding cleaner fuels such as piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) in the state.
Speaking after the review, Golay said he had followed up with district collectors and found no reports of significant shortages in any district. He told the public that authorities are stepping up surveillance to prevent hoarding, black marketing and overpricing. “A dedicated 24×7 helpline will be established, while control rooms at both State and district levels are being reinforced to ensure equitable distribution through regular, real‑time reporting,” the Chief Minister said.
The government has directed district administrations and law enforcement to maintain constant oversight and to put alternative arrangements in place across urban and rural areas to keep supplies moving. Coordination between the Transport department and Food & Civil Supplies has been intensified to streamline logistics and monitor the movement of essential commodities, officials said.
Public communication will be strengthened through media, radio and social platforms to discourage panic buying and counter misinformation. District‑level helplines will be set up to ensure prompt redressal of citizen concerns, the Chief Minister added.
State officials said the focus remains on maintaining a stable, transparent and resilient supply chain that protects all sections of society, particularly the most vulnerable. “I assure all the citizens that there is no cause for concern as adequate stocks are available across the State, and the government is fully committed to ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted supply of essential commodities for all,” Golay said.
