Riyan Parag Powers Rajasthan Royals’ Dominant Win vs CSK in Guwahati

Rajasthan Royals completed a dominant eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on March 30, 2026, turning a rain-threatened fixture into a one-sided season opener. With persistent pre-match rain raising doubts about play, RR bowled first after winning the toss and skittled CSK out while chasing a modest target of 128, then chased the total down emphatically inside 13 overs.

Persistent overcast conditions in the build-up influenced RR skipper Riyan Parag’s call to field first. The local captain — familiar with Guwahati’s conditions — marshalled his resources astutely and set the tone for the match from the outset.

RR’s bowlers executed a disciplined plan, extracting movement and varying pace to good effect. Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer led the attack, while debutant Brijesh Sharma impressed with tidy spells and clever variations that kept CSK under pressure throughout their innings.

CSK’s batting unravelled through a combination of tight bowling and poor shot selection. As one commentator observed, “Wickets have fallen and Dube (Shivam) has decided to keep going hard; that’s a little hasty.” The lone resistance late in the innings came from a 33-run last-wicket stand between Overton and Kamboj — the highest 10th-wicket partnership for CSK in IPL history — but it proved insufficient to lift the total much beyond a modest score.

The chase was brief and decisive. Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided the fireworks, racing to a blistering 50 off just 15 balls to blow the game open and shift momentum entirely in RR’s favour. At 99 for 3, with 29 required, Yashasvi Jaiswal (a composed 38) and skipper Riyan Parag calmly closed out the victory; Parag’s reverse-hit six off left-armer Noor underlined his confidence at the crease.

Fielding lapses hampered CSK further — dropped catches and missed boundary opportunities compounded their woes and made the chase smoother for the Royals. RR wrapped up the win with a healthy run rate, completing their Guwahati debut in IPL 2026 as a statement performance.

Backed by passionate home support, the Rajasthan Royals turned Barsapara Stadium into a vibrant second home, combining local familiarity with tactical clarity to open their campaign on a confident, high-intent note.
