Breaking: Police Nab Four Bangladeshi Infiltrators in Khowai
Agartala, 31 March 2026 — Tripura Police detained four Bangladeshi nationals on the morning of Tuesday, March 31, after they allegedly entered India through an unauthorized route in Khowai district. The group was intercepted in the Mahadebtilla area while travelling by auto-rickshaw toward Khowai following a police tip-off.
Officials said security personnel launched an operation after receiving specific information and stopped the vehicle that had crossed the border at Asharambari. Preliminary inquiries indicate the four entered the country via illegal channels and reportedly paid about Rs 16,000 each to middlemen operating on both sides of the India–Bangladesh border.
The detained have been identified as Abdul Mia, 55, of Kakbhola in Moulvibazar, and three others named Shyamal Mia, 55; Helal Mia, 40; and Abdul Wasik, 24. All four were taken to Khowai Police Station for questioning, authorities said.
Police have opened a detailed investigation to determine the motive for their entry and to trace others who may have facilitated the crossing. Investigators are examining the network of operators who allegedly arranged the crossing and the payments involved.
Local officials emphasised that the probe is ongoing and that further action will follow based on forensic checks and statements collected during questioning.
