The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that India is not facing a fuel crisis amid the intense conflict in West Asia, assuring citizens that there is no immediate shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas. Government data show the country currently holds enough crude oil for the next 60 days and sufficient LPG stocks to meet household needs for about one month. The ministry said it is closely monitoring international crude prices and global supply chains to guard against disruptions.
Wartime conditions in the Middle East have raised concerns about global crude supply and potential price spikes. The ministry emphasized that India has diversified its fuel import sources and is not dependent on a single region. In addition, the country maintains strategic petroleum reserves intended to cushion any emergency shortfalls and help stabilise domestic markets.
According to ministry sources, while international price volatility is a matter of concern, oil marketing companies have been asked to avoid passing immediate price increases on to consumers. Ensuring uninterrupted household LPG deliveries is a priority for the government. Authorities said they will take further measures as needed depending on how geopolitical events unfold but reiterated that the fuel sector remains secure and appealed to the public not to panic.
