Breaking: Intense Gunfight on India–Myanmar Border in Arunachal
A brief exchange of gunfire broke out on Thursday between security forces and suspected militants along the India–Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district, officials and local reports said. The clash occurred between Border Pillars 172 and 173, where Assam Rifles personnel were deployed to supervise the construction of border fencing.
According to initial accounts, troops came under fire from suspected insurgents while overseeing the fencing work, prompting an immediate retaliatory response that resulted in a short gunbattle in the area. The engagement was limited in duration and scope, the reports added.
A soldier identified as Ravi Kumar was injured in the incident. There were no reported casualties among the suspected militants, according to the same sources. No official casualty figures or further details have been released by authorities so far.
Sources suspect the possible involvement of the NSCN‑K (YA) group, but that has not been officially confirmed. In the aftermath, security forces intensified surveillance and launched area-domination operations — increased patrols and presence intended to secure the sector and prevent further attacks.
The exchange highlights ongoing security challenges along the India–Myanmar boundary in the northeast, where infrastructure work such as border fencing and regular deployments occasionally draw fire from armed groups operating in the frontier region.
