Coimbatore Marriage Hall Owners Urged to Stand Firm: No Cash Distribution Allowed to Protect Our Community!

Marriage hall owners in Tamil Nadu have received clear directives to prohibit their venues from being used for distributing cash or free items during the upcoming 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. This decision was made at a consultation meeting conducted on March 17, 2026, at the Coimbatore Collectorate, led by Collector and District Election Officer Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.

Present at the meeting were key officials including District Revenue Officer P. Narayanan, Deputy Director (Prohibition) Murugesan, and various representatives from marriage hall associations and related businesses. The discussions focused on ensuring compliance with the Model Code of Conduct aimed at maintaining a fair electoral process.

Officials emphasized that owners of printing presses must display their name and address on all printed materials, including banners and notices. They were also tasked with verifying that political candidates have obtained prior permissions for any election-related advertisements. This move is part of a broader strategy to enforce electoral integrity and transparency during the campaigning period.

Additionally, marriage hall owners have been instructed to disclose booking details and rental amounts paid by candidates to election officials. Giriyappanavar stressed the importance of keeping political activities away from venues hosting weddings and other significant events. This directive serves to uphold the sanctity of personal celebrations while preventing undue influence or disruption from political campaigns.

These measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to uphold democratic processes and ensure that stakeholders adhere to the stipulated regulations throughout the election cycle. With the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections on the horizon, maintaining a level playing field is paramount for all political participants.

As we move towards the election period, these guidelines will be closely monitored to facilitate a smooth and lawful electoral process, safeguarding the rights of voters while respecting the significance of cultural gatherings. The emphasis on compliance from both marriage hall operators and printing presses illustrates the proactive steps being taken by officials to prevent election malpractices.

In a climate where electoral integrity is more crucial than ever, the instructions issued serve as a reminder that the enforcement of election rules is a collective responsibility, involving collaboration between government officials and private sector stakeholders. As the campaign progresses, these efforts will play an essential role in shaping a fair electoral landscape in Tamil Nadu.
