A 42-year-old man allegedly died by suicide on Thursday afternoon after jumping from the 13th floor of Vinayak Tower in the Mahagun Society, Kavinagar, while his 70-year-old mother was found dead inside their flat, police said. The victims have been identified as Rajveer and his mother, Satnam Kaur.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Suryabali Maurya said Rajveer, who worked as an astrologer, lived with his mother in the flat. His estranged wife and son lived separately in a different housing society at Crossings Republik.
Police were alerted after Rajveer’s fall and, on entering the flat, found his mother’s body in bed. No suicide note was recovered at the scene. Officers estimated the mother’s body to be two to three days old.
“While the mother’s body showed no visible injury marks, the exact cause of her death will be determined after the post-mortem report,” ACP Maurya said.
The deceased man’s wife told investigators that Rajveer had not provided financial support for household expenses in the previous four months. Police were also told Rajveer had suffered family losses in recent years: his father and brother died some years ago and his brother’s widow had remarried.
Neighbours described Rajveer as a private person who did not interact much with others. Kavinagar Police are investigating whether Rajveer killed his mother before taking his own life or committed suicide after her death; forensic examination and post-mortem results are awaited.
