The Election Commission of India has deployed both general and expenditure observers in Dhubri district as part of preparations for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, aiming to ensure a free, fair and transparent poll. Two IAS officers, T K Shibu and T An Balagan, will monitor overall election conduct across key constituencies and are available for public interaction daily from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Circuit House. IRS officers G Vamshi Krishna Reddy and Prakash Choudhury have been appointed to monitor candidate spending and financial compliance; they can be contacted between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
The observers’ remit covers the constituencies of Golakganj, Dhubri, Birsing Jarua, Gauripur and Bilasipara. Their presence is intended to strengthen on-the-ground oversight of polling arrangements, law-and-order measures and adherence to electoral procedures throughout the district.
To handle complaints and ensure swift action, the administration has activated a grievance redressal mechanism aligned with the Model Code of Conduct — the Election Commission’s guidelines that regulate the behavior of political parties and candidates during the election period. A 24×7 control room has been established at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Dhubri to receive and coordinate responses to complaints.
Voters and stakeholders can report poll-related violations via the toll-free number 1950, landline 03662-230021, or mobile 9181952020. Authorities have affirmed that all complaints will be recorded and processed in accordance with established procedures.
The deployment of observers and the setting up of helplines underline the Commission’s emphasis on electoral integrity and public participation as Assam moves toward the 2026 Assembly elections. These measures are aimed at promoting transparency and safeguarding democratic norms during the election period.
