Outrage in Maharashtra: Community Demands Justice After Heart-Wrenching Acid Attack on Innocent Minor
The recent acid attack on a 13-year-old girl in Vadgaonpan village, located in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, has ignited widespread outrage and protests among local residents. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, saw the schoolgirl suffer severe facial burns when an unknown assailant attacked her as she was returning home from school. As of now, she is receiving treatment at a hospital in Loni.
Local law enforcement has taken swift action, filing charges against the unidentified perpetrator under Section 124 and Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses voluntarily causing grievous hurt by acid and wrongful restraint, respectively. The attack has triggered not only community protests but also a significant reaction within political circles, with calls for immediate justice.
During the ongoing Budget session, Sangamner MLA Amol Khatal raised concerns regarding the incident, highlighting that the victim belongs to an economically disadvantaged background. In response to public and political pressure, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare assured that the girl would receive financial aid under the Nirbhaya Scheme, aimed at supporting survivors of violence.
Condemnation of the attack came from various quarters, including Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar, who criticized the state government for failing to uphold law and order. He stated, “Such attacks indicate that criminals no longer fear the police.” This sentiment resonates widely in the community, echoing fears about safety and justice.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Chitra Kishor Wagh, who also leads the party’s women’s wing in the state, assured the public that ten special teams have been formed to apprehend the attacker. She emphasized that the survivor would receive the best medical care and confidently stated that the perpetrator would be caught soon, with stringent measures to be implemented against him.
The outpouring of anger from the community has manifested in “rasta roko” protests-blockades of roads-demanding urgent action and a heightened sense of security for citizens, particularly women and children. Local residents are united in their calls for the government to take decisive steps to address violence against women, reflecting a growing trend among citizens to demand accountability and swift justice.
As this case unfolds, the focus remains on supporting the young survivor and ensuring justice is served. The community’s resilience in the face of such violence underscores a collective determination not only to seek justice for this incident but to advocate for broader safety measures for all. The case remains ongoing, with authorities under pressure to act decisively amidst rising public concern.
The attack not only highlights the urgent need for stricter laws and enforcement against such heinous acts but also stresses the importance of societal vigilance in protecting vulnerable sections of the community.
