Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visiting the debris-strewn site in Beit Shemesh where an Iranian strike on a synagogue killed nine people, told NDTV he had spoken at length with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked him for “standing with Israel amid tensions in the Middle East.”
Surrounded by bodyguards as he walked among the wreckage, Netanyahu said: “I spoke to our great friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I spoke to him at length yesterday and thanked him for his standing with Israel, standing for the truth, and for the enormous friendship of the people of India,” the prime minister told NDTV, adding that he had also spoken with other regional and global leaders but would not provide details of those conversations.
The report noted the personal rapport between the two leaders and pointed to deep India–Israel ties in trade, defence and people-to-people connections.
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu framed the ongoing joint US–Israeli campaign against Iran as intended, in part, to create conditions for Iranians to remove their leadership. “That day is drawing near. And when it comes, Israel and the United States will be there, together with the Iranian people,” he said to reporters at the site of the missile strike.
Since the joint strikes began on Saturday, Netanyahu has urged Iranians to “cast off the yoke of tyranny,” and U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the same report, told Iranians to “take back your country.”
The Israeli Defence Forces said Iran launched several missiles this evening and that defence systems were operating to intercept them; the IDF said three were destroyed before they could cause harm. Israeli authorities urged the public to enter protected spaces after receiving mobile alerts and to remain indoors until further notice.
