Rs 27 Lakh Recovered from Abandoned Scooter in Nagaon Ahead of Polls
A sum of Rs 27,17,880 — roughly Rs 27.17 lakh — was recovered from an abandoned scooter in the Samaguri area of Nagaon district in Assam, officials said, in an incident that has raised concerns ahead of the upcoming elections. The cash was found inside a black scooter bearing registration number AS 02 R 8641 parked along the Salana-Borjuri road, which falls under the jurisdiction of Samaguri Police Station.
Local residents first noticed the unattended vehicle at a secluded spot and alerted police. Teams from the Samaguri and Salana police stations arrived at the scene and recovered the money from the scooter. Police later counted the cash and confirmed the total amount as Rs 27,17,880, which has been taken into police custody.
Officials described the scooter’s placement and the large amount of cash inside as suspicious, prompting questions about the source and intended use of the money. Authorities have launched an investigation to trace where the cash came from and to identify those responsible.
Police have not yet issued an official public statement. Investigators said further details would be released as the probe progresses.
