Manipur CM Urges Immediate Release of Civilians on Ukhrul–Imphal Road
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Wednesday, March 11 expressed deep concern after reports that several civilians have been held captive along the Ukhrul–Imphal road, reportedly within the Litan Police Station area, and urged their immediate and unconditional release. He described the incident as a cowardly act against innocent people and appealed to those responsible to “uphold the highest traditions of humanity.”
The Chief Minister assured the families of the detained individuals and the wider public that the state government is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness. He said authorities will take all necessary steps to identify those involved and bring them to justice.
Khemchand has directed senior police and administrative officials to coordinate closely and keep strict vigil over the affected area. Officials were instructed to initiate immediate measures to secure the safe release of the civilians and restore normalcy along the crucial road corridor.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to law and order, the Chief Minister stressed the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety and security of every citizen of Manipur. He warned that stringent action will be taken against anyone found guilty of unlawful activities.
The Chief Minister also appealed to civil society organisations and local stakeholders to cooperate with authorities in defusing tensions and helping to bring the situation under control, urging all sections of society to shun violence and maintain peace.
