Chennai Professor’s Inspiring Journey: 7,530 km Electric Bike Adventure Highlights Determination and Passion!
Baala Manikandan, an electric vehicle enthusiast and assistant professor at Madras Christian College, recently achieved an impressive milestone on his electric motorcycle, the Raptee HV T30. Embarking on a remarkable journey across India, he covered 7,530 km in just 19 days, visiting 16 states and setting records in the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records for the longest ride and highest average distance on a production electric motorcycle.
His adventure began after testing the Raptee HV T30 prototype in 2024, which inspired him to undertake a comprehensive all-India tour. From December 23, 2025, to January 16, 2026, he traversed the country, navigating various weather conditions and terrains. “Riding uphill was definitely more challenging compared to the rest of the journey. But on the downhill stretches, the motorcycle regenerated energy, which helped stabilize the ride,” Baala shared, reflecting on the nuances of his experience.
Interestingly, the long ride wasn’t part of a predetermined plan. Baala confessed, “I simply asked for the bike, and even until I reached Kolkata, I wasn’t certain I would continue further. But once I got there, the journey suddenly felt possible.” His drive covered approximately 400 km daily, surpassing his previous record of 6,727 km in 22 days and seven hours set in 2023.
During winter in northern India, he maintained a strong emphasis on safety, adhering to speed limits and visibility guidelines. “For me, it was simple; I just wanted to get back on the motorcycle as soon as possible. I knew this was only the beginning, and I wanted to keep pushing boundaries,” he said, indicating his desire for further explorations.
The Raptee HV T30’s advanced features facilitated his epic trip. As India’s first electric motorcycle compatible with a CCS2 (Combined Charging System Type 2) charger, it allowed for quicker charging and improved connectivity. “The inbuilt navigation system, Wi-Fi, and cruise control made the journey smoother than expected,” Baala noted, highlighting the technology’s crucial role in his expedition.
When asked about safety for others planning similar journeys, Baala stressed the importance of personal safety. “Keep your speed in check and thoroughly research every place you plan to visit. An electric vehicle journey is absolutely possible, but while you’re chasing the thrill, never forget to stay cautious and ride responsibly.”
