Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita on Sunday expressed deep concern for the safety of Indian nationals abroad after coordinated US‑Israeli strikes on Iran that, the source reports, resulted in the death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Speaking in Majuli, Margherita said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and other relevant authorities were closely monitoring the unfolding situation to safeguard Indians travelling or living overseas. “In view of the situation unfolding in West Asia, particularly after the strikes on Iran, the MEA is observing the entire scenario with vigilance, keeping a keen eye on the developments. Instructions have already been issued for the protection and assistance of students, tourists and all Indians who are currently abroad,” he said.
The minister urged Indian nationals-especially students and travellers in affected regions-to stay in close contact with Indian missions and to follow all government safety advisories. He assured that genuine cases of distress would receive “all possible support through official govt channels.” Margherita stressed that the safety and well‑being of Indians abroad remained the government’s priority and emphasized the need for accurate information and coordinated support during uncertain times.
Addressing communities in Assam with family ties in West Asia, he made a direct appeal for calm and said official channels were actively working to ensure prompt assistance. The comments follow Operation Epic Fury, described in the report as a joint US‑Israeli military campaign targeting Iranian nuclear and military installations and striking Tehran, Natanz and other strategic locations, which has caused significant destruction and left the region in a volatile security state.
