Nearly Rs 1 Crore Drugs Seized in Nilambazar, Assam; One Arrested
Nilambazar Police in Sribhumi district seized suspected narcotics worth nearly Rs 1 crore after acting on specific intelligence, recovering 20,000 Yaba tablets and arresting one person, officials said. The operation followed a tip-off that led officers to conduct a raid in the Brahmanshasan area, where the contraband was found.
Police recovered the tablets packed in 10 packets during the raid; the total haul is estimated to be worth almost Rs 1 crore, authorities added. Officials said the operation was carried out based on targeted intelligence aimed at disrupting local drug trafficking.
One person, identified as Jabir Uddin, a resident of Kandigram in Nilambazar, was arrested in connection with the seizure. Police suspect he is involved in drug trafficking and said he is being interrogated to determine the source of the consignment and its intended destination.
Yaba is a stimulant tablet containing methamphetamine and caffeine that is commonly targeted in anti-narcotics operations. Further investigation by the Nilambazar Police is underway as officials seek to trace the supply chain and any wider network connected to the seizure.
