Heart-Wrenching Tales of Indians Trapped in the Middle East: ‘Missiles Above Us’ as They Await Desperate Flights | India News

Protests erupted across Jammu and Kashmir following the confirmation of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s death amid escalating tensions from the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Hundreds of Kashmiri Shia Muslims took to the streets, holding images of Khamenei and banners proclaiming solidarity with Iran. This unrest coincides with a significant impact on India’s aviation sector, as the conflict has led to widespread flight cancellations.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced that 444 flights are expected to be cancelled today, March 1, following the grounding of over 410 domestic flights the previous day. The growing crisis, marked by coordinated airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel targeting Iranian military and nuclear sites, has prompted Iran to retaliate with missile and drone attacks against U.S. military bases across the Gulf. Reports of explosions in cities such as Dubai, Doha, and Manama have fueled fears, leading airlines to suspend services to affected Gulf destinations.

Airports in major Indian cities-Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai-are currently on high alert as airlines adapt to airspace restrictions. Passengers are experiencing substantial delays and cancellations, leaving many stranded at various airports across India. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has established 24-hour helplines to assist stranded travelers in Saudi Arabia, providing essential support amid this unfolding situation.

Further affecting travelers, the crisis has also stranded over 700 people from Madhya Pradesh in the UAE. Among those affected is former MLA Sanjay Shukla, who confirmed that flight operations are on hold due to the closure of Dubai airport. Social media accounts reflect growing unease among travelers from India currently in the region, with many recounting experiences of missile activity and heightened security advisories.

In addition to the aviation turmoil, the conflict has raised concerns regarding oil supply disruptions through the pivotal Strait of Hormuz. Industry experts warn this could lead to significant increases in global crude prices, further impacting India’s economy. Rising fuel costs could contribute to increased inflation and affect trade balances, compounding the overall implications for the Indian economy.

The Indian government’s response has been one of concern, with the Ministry of External Affairs urging restraint among the involved nations and emphasizing the safety of its citizens. Meanwhile, political leaders within India, including Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, have called for communal harmony and vigilance during these tumultuous times.

As the situation develops, the Indian public remains attentive to updates regarding flight operations, safety advisories, and broader international ramifications stemming from this conflict. The Indian audience is encouraged to stay informed through live updates as embassies and airlines navigate this complex and dynamic crisis.
