Transforming Hope: How Telangana’s Govt. IVF Services Are Revolutionizing Fertility with 190 New Cases!
In a remarkable advancement for fertility treatments in Telangana, a 30-year-old woman from Alwal celebrated the birth of her healthy baby girl through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad. This success story underscores the growing capabilities of government healthcare facilities in providing advanced reproductive services, especially as more individuals seek alternatives after unsuccessful private treatments.
The mother, who had been married for seven years and faced challenges with multiple failed infertility treatments, turned to Gandhi Hospital’s infertility outpatient department in February 2025. After several unsuccessful intrauterine insemination (IUI) attempts elsewhere, she underwent a comprehensive infertility evaluation. Following a medical ovulation induction, which showed inadequate response, the medical team opted for IVF as the next step. Throughout the antenatal period, she received continuous monitoring and was eventually admitted for a lower-segment caesarean section due to preterm labor, resulting in the delivery of a 2-kilogram baby girl on February 7. Both mother and child are currently in good health, with the newborn having spent some time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for observation before joining her mother.
This positive outcome aligns with a broader trend of expanding infertility services at government institutions in Telangana. In late 2024, IVF centers were inaugurated at both Gandhi Hospital and the Modern Government Maternity Hospital (MGMH) Petlaburj, enhancing access to services that include infertility evaluations and assisted reproductive technologies. Since their launch, these facilities have recorded significant success, with a total of 190 successful pregnancies attributed to a combination of treatment methods including ovulation induction, IUI, and IVF.
From their inception to January 2026, the two hospitals have collectively seen 8,359 new infertility outpatients and 19,013 follow-up visits. This brings the total outpatient interactions to an impressive 27,372. Notably, the facilities have conducted 568 hysterosalpingography procedures-key assessments of the uterus and fallopian tubes-and 14,033 follicular studies, which monitor ovulation as part of their comprehensive infertility assessments.
In terms of treatment outcomes, doctors performed medical ovulation induction on 3,004 women, yielding 159 positive pregnancy tests. Specifically, Gandhi Hospital executed 1,550 such procedures, resulting in 56 successful pregnancies, while MGMH Petlaburj conducted 1,454 inductions with 103 ensuing positive cases. Intrauterine insemination treatments also gained traction, with a total of 366 procedures leading to 19 successful pregnancies. Gandhi Hospital carried out 32 IUIs, achieving two positive outcomes, whereas MGMH Petlaburj saw 334 procedures resulting in 17 successful pregnancies.
Advanced IVF interventions are being progressively enhanced, with 97 IVF stimulation cycles completed, resulting in 100 ovum retrievals and 48 embryo transfers. This culminated in 12 successful IVF pregnancies: seven from Gandhi Hospital and five from MGMH Petlaburj.
The steady expansion of infertility services and successful outcomes at these governmental healthcare institutions represents a hopeful shift for individuals facing infertility challenges, underscoring the essential role of public health in reproductive services in Telangana.
