Shots were fired at a car carrying a lawyer who said he was part of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s legal team near Delhi’s Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) shortly after 10:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, police and media reports said. Three men on a motorcycle opened fire at the vehicle in the Kashmiri Gate area near the Marghat Wale Hanuman Temple, the occupants told investigators. Five people were in the car at the time; one sustained a shoulder injury and was taken for treatment and is now reported to be out of danger.
Preliminary reports from News18 said the rear glass of the vehicle was damaged in the attack. A short video and an update posted by ANI on Twitter identified the location and noted one injured person among the occupants. Witnesses and those in the vehicle described the firing as indiscriminate.
Delhi Police said they have registered a case and deployed a forensic team to examine the scene. Officials told reporters that investigators are probing all angles, including whether the attack was targeted. Police are collecting CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Lawrence Bishnoi, currently serving sentences since 2015, has long been a high-profile figure for Indian law enforcement. Authorities say he is lodged in a high-security ward at Sabarmati Central Jail after being shifted there in August 2023 and that strict restrictions apply to his movement, including a bar on transfer to other state police forces under Section 268 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Investigators and police agencies have repeatedly alleged that Bishnoi continues to direct criminal activity through associates across states and abroad; law enforcement has linked his network, they say, to several high-profile incidents, including the killing of Baba Siddique in Mumbai and attacks on pro-Khalistan figures in Canada.
Police did not immediately name suspects. The investigation is continuing with forensic analysis, footage review and further questioning of those present during the shooting.
