Breaking: 22g Heroin Seized Near Shillong Bypass, One Arrested
A suspected drug dealer was arrested and 22.14 grams of suspected heroin seized by the Anti‑Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Meghalaya Police after a tip‑off near the Shillong bypass on Friday. The operation, officials said, disrupted what appeared to be a handover of contraband near the ISBT Shillong stretch of the bypass.
“Acting on credible intelligence, an ANTF team laid a ‘naka’ (temporary checkpoint) near ISBT Shillong along the bypass road after receiving information that a person would be arriving to hand over a consignment of contraband,” police said. The team intercepted a car at the checkpoint and apprehended the occupant, identified as Wanbor Kharpran.
“Upon searching following due legal procedures, officers recovered two plastic boxes containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 22.14 grams,” the police added. The seized substance, the vehicle and the accused have been handed over to Mawlai police station for further investigation and legal action.
Police sources said inquiries are continuing to establish the origin of the consignment and whether the arrest is linked to a larger trafficking network. The ANTF described the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug distribution in and around Shillong.
