Karan Adani Assures: AI Will Enhance Efficiency, Not Replace Humans

In New Delhi on Saturday, Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, said artificial intelligence will not entirely replace humans but will act as an efficiency enhancer, allowing fewer people to deliver higher output. Speaking at the All India Management Association’s Platinum Jubilee (70th) Foundation Day and 20th National Management Day, he described AI as a powerful tool that can improve productivity and help organisations scale faster, while warning of transition challenges.

Adani acknowledged that large‑scale technology adoption could cause temporary job displacement before reskilling systems mature. He said such risks place a duty on corporations to support employees through the transition: “Big organisations have a responsibility to retrain and upskill employees as part of structured change management.”

Reflecting on his formative years, Adani said three years at a missionary school taught him discipline, independence and the value of interacting with peers from diverse backgrounds. He described those years as important to his personal development.

Adani also spoke about his passion for Formula 1, which he was introduced to by friends in Singapore. He said he admires how every millisecond counts in the sport, recalling the dominance of Michael Schumacher, and joked that his father considers it an expensive hobby. On the prospect of F1 returning to India, he argued that hosting global sporting events brings international exposure but noted the current benefits reach only a limited few: “However, currently such exposure benefits only a limited number of people, which is why many Indians travel to places like Doha, Saudi Arabia and Singapore to attend races.” He added, “India has strong potential to host F1 again and, if it happens, it should showcase Indian heritage to the world.”

Recounting his entry into the ports business, Adani said that after finishing college he told his father of his interest in the sector and was sent that same night to Mundra Port. He spent his first year working on the ground without an office or desk, visiting different operational areas, learning problems firsthand and calling the experience deeply educational and down‑to‑earth.
