Tight Security Blanket Shrouds Agartala Ahead of Amit Shah Visit
Authorities have tightened security across Agartala as Union Home Minister Amit Shah prepares to visit the city on February 19. Shah is scheduled to attend the Joint Regional Official Language Conference for the Northern and Eastern Regions on February 20 and will spend the night in Agartala, officials said, underlining the high-profile nature of the visit and the need for heightened protective measures.
A Tripura government official confirmed that security personnel have been deployed at key locations across the city to maintain strict control and ensure public safety. The heightened presence covers major approach roads, public venues and likely accommodation sites used during the visit.
Sources said Shah will meet Chief Minister Manik Saha, senior BJP leaders and coalition partners from the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tipra Motha Party on the evening of his arrival to discuss coordination and other matters related to the visit.
To prepare, an Advanced Security Liaison meeting was held on February 18 at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and the Hapania International Fair Ground. The meeting was attended by senior officials including West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Additional SP Dhruv Nath, Sub‑Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir and representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Officials said the team reviewed route security, venue safeguards, traffic diversion plans and emergency response protocols to minimise disruption and manage risks. “The meeting aimed to ensure comprehensive security arrangements, effective inter‑departmental coordination, and the smooth execution of the high‑profile visit,” an official said.
Administrators stressed that seamless coordination across departments remains the priority and vowed to implement comprehensive measures to guarantee safety throughout the visit.
