Senior Congress leaders sent under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA) met party workers and office-bearers at NC Event Hall in Sapermeina, Kangpokpi district, to kickstart a planned revival and restructuring of the party’s organisational framework in Sadar Hills. The delegation said the move follows directives from AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to rebuild the Congress base across the Northeast, with a focus on grassroots mobilisation, stronger booth-level structures and greater accountability within district units.
The team was led by AICC Secretary and Manipur in-charge Christopher Tilak, and included HC Yogesh, the AICC observer for SSA in Sadar Hills, and Anwar Hussain, MPCC secretary and SSA observer for the area. Local DCC leaders received the delegation, signalling renewed energy within the Sadar Hills unit. The meeting was moderated by Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, MPCC vice-president and PCC member from 51-Saitu.
Discussions centred on structural reforms, cadre mobilisation, internal coordination and strategies to reconnect with grassroots workers. Leaders stressed discipline, inclusivity and a performance-based organisational culture as core principles for rebuilding the party’s presence in the district. Block-level restructuring, reconstitution of frontal organisations and strengthening of the Mahila Congress and Youth Congress were highlighted as priority actions, while observers invited candid feedback from workers on outreach gaps and organisational challenges.
Present at the interaction were Sadar Hills DCC Working President Andrew Gangmei, District Mahila President Neinu Kipgen, DCC General Secretary JR Rangsonglar Chiru, and office-bearers from the Mahila and Youth Congress units of the 46-Saikul, 50-Kangpokpi and 51-Saitu assembly segments.
HC Yogesh underlined that the selection of DCC presidents in Manipur, including Sadar Hills, will follow a “free, fair and transparent” process without political interference. “Anyone can apply. Anyone can contest. Within a month, a deserving leader can emerge as the District Congress President purely on merit,” he said, adding that lobbying and recommendation-based appointments would no longer determine leadership positions. Yogesh also said the AICC will back the newly elected district leadership as it prepares for upcoming elections in Manipur.
Dr Haokip described the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan as a “turning point” for Congress in Sadar Hills, framing the exercise as a thorough organisational audit involving consultation with all blocks, stakeholders and party workers to ensure transparency and inclusivity. With central leadership attention and visible mobilisation on the ground, the Congress appears to be recalibrating its strategy in this politically significant region of Manipur.
