Unmasking Injustice: State Govt. Diverts Crucial SC/ST Welfare Funds-A Betrayal of Hope and Trust
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) staged a significant demonstration in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli, on Wednesday, sharply criticizing the DMK government for allegedly misappropriating funds designated for the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
AIADMK’s Tirunelveli district secretary, Thatchai N. Ganesaraja, revealed that the Tamil Nadu government has diverted upwards of ₹25,000 crore intended for SC/ST welfare to various general schemes. This has prompted the National SC/ST Commission to request an in-depth report on what they term a critical mismanagement of resources. Ganesaraja emphasized that rampant corruption and fiscal irresponsibility have plunged the state into a staggering debt exceeding ₹9 lakh crore. He cautioned that if the current trajectory continues, Tamil Nadu risks impending bankruptcy.
Speaking at the rally, Ganesaraja urged the electorate to make informed decisions in the upcoming Assembly elections, highlighting the threats posed by the present government’s financial mismanagement. “The Tamil Nadu Government is attempting to project an image of success by promoting supposedly unprecedented growth rates,” he noted. “However, the reality is far bleaker.”
NDA representatives further accused the DMK government of misusing central funds, alleging that over ₹5,000 crore allocated by the Centre for welfare initiatives aimed at impoverished SC and ST communities has been redirected to populist schemes aimed at garnering votes. The speakers underscored a pattern of financial misappropriation that undermines the rights and welfare of marginalized communities.
The demonstration drew participation from leaders of the Pattali Makkal Katchi and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, who joined the NDA in voicing their concerns over what they describe as a continued trend of fiscal irresponsibility and corruption. As the assembly elections approach, the NDA’s rally serves as a call to action for voters in Tamil Nadu to be vigilant regarding the allocation of public funds and the accountability of their elected officials.
