A family has alleged that a patient was left inside an ambulance at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for several hours without receiving medical attention. According to the relatives, the patient arrived from Gohpur at about 3:00 AM and remained in the ambulance until roughly 11:30 AM before being taken inside the hospital complex.
The relatives said they repeatedly approached the CN Centre within the GMCH campus, seeking urgent help from doctors and staff, but were told to wait and did not receive timely medical intervention. They described rushing from pillar to post in search of care while the patient remained unattended in the vehicle.
Family members also alleged that a female doctor on duty behaved rudely toward the patient’s attendants when they requested intervention, describing the encounter as inappropriate and unprofessional. The complaints characterize the treatment of both the patient and their relatives as neglectful and disrespectful.
Expressing anguish over the incident, the patient’s relatives have appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to order strict action against the doctor they named and to ensure accountability in the matter. The family has demanded a formal inquiry into the alleged lapse in emergency response and patient care.
