KVK Kamrup’s 15-Day Training Empowers Agri-Input Dealers
A 15-day training programme for agri-input dealers began on February 9 at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kamrup campus in Kahikuchi under a joint initiative of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, and the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM). The programme, which runs until February 23, brings together 58 participants-one representative each from the boards of women Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) across 19 districts of Assam-to receive technical and managerial training related to agricultural inputs and services.
The participants were selected as board representatives of women-led FPCs, reflecting an emphasis on strengthening women’s roles in farm-level supply chains and decision-making. Organisers said the cohort represents diverse districts across the state, allowing knowledge exchange tailored to local cropping systems and input needs.
The inaugural session was attended by Nripen Das, Director of Horticulture, Government of Assam, and Dhruvajyoti Gogoi, State Project Director of ASRLM, who served as chief guests. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Dhirendra Nath Kalita, Director of CBO and Chief Scientist, and Manabendra Nath Sharma, a senior official from the Agriculture Department, Government of Assam.
Dr. Sonmoina Bhuyan, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Kamrup, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of the training programme. The programme leadership includes Arup Kumar Sharma as Course Director and Madhusmita Deka as Course Coordinator; Arup Kumar Sharma conducted the inaugural technical session and Madhusmita Deka delivered the vote of thanks.
Organisers have structured the 15-day schedule to cover practical and managerial aspects relevant to agri-input dealers and FPC directors, with sessions led by KVK resource persons and partner organisations. The training is part of broader efforts by state and academic agencies to build capacity among producers’ groups and improve access to quality agricultural inputs.
By targeting women-led FPC board members and agri-input dealers, the programme aims to strengthen local input supply systems and promote better-informed decision-making at the grassroots level, with potential benefits for crop productivity and rural livelihoods across Assam.
