Central security forces, working with the Manipur Police, arrested eight suspected insurgents and seized arms, ammunition, communication devices and incriminating documents across the state within the previous 24 hours, police said on Thursday (February 12, 2026). The multi-phase operation, conducted in several districts, was carried out on the basis of precise intelligence inputs, authorities said.

In the first operation, three active cadres of the banned Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were arrested near Moirangthel village close to Border Pillar 88 under Tengnoupal Police Station. Those detained were identified as Abujam Naba Meeitei (49) of Wangoo Terakhong in Bishnupur district; Ningthoujam Kunjabihari Singh (30) of Moirang (Naryansinha), Bishnupur district; and Ningthoujam Manglem Singh (45) of Heirok Part-III, Thoubal district. Police said the arrests followed intelligence provided by an associate of the outfit who had been detained earlier.

In a separate swoop, Yaikhomba Meitei — also known by the aliases Thouba, Wanglen and Sintha — of Wabagai Terapishak in Kakching district, described by police as an active KYKL extortionist, was apprehended. Officers recovered four mobile phones, two Aadhaar cards bearing different addresses, a driving licence, PAN card, an SBI ATM card, an Airtel Payments Bank card and a Kotak Visa card from his possession.

During the third phase, two alleged extortionists of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party – Meeyamgi Fingang Lalmee (KCP-MFL) were arrested at their homes in Khabi Mamang Leikai, Imphal West. They were named as Thangjam Goutam Singh (19) and Diamond Chingshubam (24). Police seized a Royal Enfield Meteor (registration MN04G-2108), two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card.

Authorities said a fourth arrest brought in Khulem Kulajit Singh (20) of Khurai Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Imphal East, an alleged member of the banned KCP (Apunba); officers recovered a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card. Another KCP (Apunba) cadre, Chabungbam Taisan Meitei (21) of Ekou, Sadu Koireng (A/P Sajiwa Relief Camp), was detained from Khurai Laishram Leikai near Chairenthong, Imphal East, where an M20 pistol, a magazine and a mobile phone were seized.

In the final phase, police arrested Athokpam Derrick Singh (22) of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai, Imphal West, whom they allege was involved in a bomb explosion at Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai on February 3, 2026; officers recovered two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card. Police said the operations aim to dismantle the operational capabilities of outlawed groups in the state and to curb extortion and violent activities.
