TMC Controversy in Shillong — Exclusive Report by The Shillong Times
Charles Pyngrope, state president of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Meghalaya, has accused the state government of neglect after a recent incident in the Mynsngat‑Thangsko area of East Jaintia Hills left about 30 homes damaged. Pyngrope said the affected families are living in acute hardship and have not received adequate government assistance.
Speaking about conditions on the ground, Pyngrope said residents are struggling without basic necessities and urgent relief. He urged authorities to move quickly to provide food, shelter and other essential support to those displaced by the incident.
“We are seeing a distressing situation where entire households have been left vulnerable. The affected families must be given immediate food, shelter and all necessary relief,” Pyngrope said, calling for an expedited response to meet urgent needs.
Pyngrope also criticized the administration’s preparedness and response, asking why relief has not reached those in need and what steps the government had taken to prevent or mitigate the disaster. “How long will the cries of these people go unheard? The government must explain what measures it took and why assistance has not been delivered,” he said.
He additionally called for a rapid assessment of losses and appropriate compensation for those whose homes were damaged, saying an immediate survey and clear relief plan are needed to restore normalcy.
The statement was issued by the TMC state president, who placed responsibility for the perceived lapse in response squarely on the state government.
