When Distance Fades: How Remote Work Redefines Our Future

Prof (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, says the Modi government’s push on infrastructure-most visibly the new terminal at Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBIA), developed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL)—is narrowing the North‑East’s isolation and expanding opportunity for Tripura by improving movement, markets and confidence.

For a landlocked state like Tripura, distance has long shaped how people travelled, traded, studied and imagined their futures. Saha recalls meeting a student from a village near Kailashahar who once felt that travelling to Delhi for higher studies was like crossing countries rather than states. Improved roads, an expanding rail network and stronger air links have shortened that journey and made it less intimidating for many young people, he writes.

Saha argues that connectivity is more than physical infrastructure: it is belief. Better links help students see opportunity closer to home, allow farmers to reach markets on time, enable entrepreneurs to think beyond state borders and make citizens feel included in the nation’s progress. For him, infrastructure changes how people perceive and pursue their futures.

Inter‑state links within the North‑East are, Saha says, the backbone of broader change because they allow growth to be shared and resilience to deepen. Equally important is seamless connection with mainland India; without both, integration remains incomplete. In this context, Guwahati’s upgraded airport plays a pivotal role as a regional gateway that can connect Tripura more quickly to institutions, markets and services across the country.

According to Saha, the new LGBIA terminal-designed for scale and efficiency and delivered by AAHL-does more than add capacity. It acts as an enabler of movement, commerce and confidence that shortens journeys and widens horizons for states like Tripura. He links improved access directly to rising investment and expanding activity across agriculture, tourism, education, logistics and health services.

Saha places the infrastructure push within the government’s broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, arguing that self‑reliance means building domestic strength to engage the world on equal terms. Beyond economics, he stresses the role of connectivity in emotional integration: easier travel and faster flow of goods and services deepen understanding, build trust and create shared stakes in progress.

For Tripura, the benefits are already tangible in lower logistics costs, better service delivery and wider access to opportunity. Saha concludes that distance no longer decides destiny-connectivity does-and that Tripura is ready to move forward as the North‑East becomes increasingly connected, confident and part of India’s growth story.
