Midnight Fire Rocks Manipur Village: Home Damaged, Police Deny Exodus

A residential building in K Lungwiram village, Manipur, suffered partial damage after a fire broke out shortly after midnight on February 10, Manipur police said. Security personnel stationed nearby responded at about 12:10 a.m. and extinguished the blaze, and authorities have launched an investigation into its cause.

Police said conditions in the area remain stable following the incident. District police officials visited the village to reassure residents and, according to a police statement, “assured them of peace and tranquillity in the area.”

The Konsaram Village Authority (KVA) condemned the fire and appealed to both state and central governments to immediately deploy security forces, provide relief assistance and take decisive measures to maintain law and order in the region.

Separately, police moved to counter misinformation circulating on social media that claimed residents of Konshakhul had fled to Kanto Sabal following the Litan incident. The police described those reports as false, saying there was no mass exodus; only a handful of students and families have temporarily moved into rented accommodation because the new academic session has begun.

Manipur police issued their clarification on February 10 and urged the public not to believe or share unverified rumours on social media. The incident and the subsequent communications highlight authorities’ focus on both public safety and preventing the spread of false information.
