A Class VIII student tragically died on Friday night in Tinsukia district, allegedly due to injuries inflicted by a teacher. The educator, identified as Sanjeeb Sharma, was arrested following the incident at Sankardev Shishu Niketan school in Phillobari. Reports indicate that the student was beaten after school hours on Thursday afternoon. Despite receiving initial treatment, the severity of his injuries led to his transfer to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
The student, who was from Amguri in the Sivasagar district, had been a resident of the school since Class I, staying in the hostel managed by the principal. Police in Phillobari have opened a case against Sharma under Section 117(2) of the BNS.
