Union Budget 2026: Mamata Banerjee Calls Out ‘Directionless’ Policies
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized the Union Budget, calling it a “Humpty Dumpty budget” and accusing the Central government of lacking direction. Speaking before her departure to the national capital, Mamata expressed concerns that the BJP’s budget contents, which she labeled a “garbage of lies,” reflect their fear of losing in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Mamata asserted that the budget is detrimental to women, farmers, education, and marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). “It has nothing for Bengal. They know they will not win in Bengal, and therefore, they are trying to financially deprive our state. It is a visionless and directionless Budget,” she stated.
In addition, the Chief Minister raised issues regarding outstanding dues and GST. She reminded the public that during her tenure as Union Railway Minister, she had proposed establishing a freight corridor between Dankuni and Surat back in 2009. “The Centre has yet to release our dues of Rs 2 lakh crore. The Central government is profiting from the GST that they are taking away from Bengal. This is a Humpty Dumpty Budget as it offers nothing for the common people,” she added.
The proposed Dankuni–Surat freight corridor is considered a crucial initiative aimed at promoting environmentally sustainable cargo transportation.
