
Assam Assembly Gears Up for Crucial Vote-on-Account Budget Vote on Feb 16
Guwahati: The final session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is set to begin on February 16, during which the state government will present a vote-on-account budget in preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, according to an official notification released on Thursday. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya stated that the House will convene at 9:30 AM on February 16, and the session is expected to last for four days.
A senior Assembly official remarked that a vote-on-account budget will be introduced during this session. However, the detailed agenda remains undecided as the Business Advisory Committee has yet to convene. Elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly are anticipated to take place in March or April of this year.
Currently, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds 64 seats, supported by allies-Asom Gana Parishad, which has nine members; United People’s Party Liberal with seven; and Bodoland People’s Front, which has three. In contrast, the opposition comprises the Congress Party with 26 MLAs, the All India United Democratic Front with 15, and a single member from the CPI(M). The current assembly also includes one Independent legislator.
