Security measures have been heightened along the India-Nepal border in response to specific intelligence received by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) regarding possible activities by anti-national elements on Republic Day. Commandant Ganga Singh Udawat of the SSB’s 42nd Battalion confirmed that there are credible concerns about potential disruptions during the January 26 celebrations.
In light of these threats, SSB personnel are maintaining constant vigilance across roads, forests, footpaths, and waterways along the border. The commandant noted an increase in patrolling to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, the SSB’s flood unit is actively patrolling the rivers both day and night. The security apparatus, including dog squads and watchtowers, remains on high alert.
Udawat also stated that only individuals who have undergone thorough identity checks are being allowed to cross the border. He emphasized the importance of these strict measures for public security and urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel during the verification process.
As India marks its 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a national address, reiterating the country’s dedication to world peace amid global conflicts. She highlighted the guiding principles of self-reliance (atma nirbharta) and local production (swadeshi) as key elements in fostering economic growth.
The president called on citizens to participate actively in the mission to transform India into a developed nation by 2047, the centenary of independence. She also noted advancements in women’s development and discussed significant government welfare schemes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, formerly Twitter, to extend his Republic Day wishes, expressing hope that the occasion would reinvigorate the nation’s collective resolve to build a developed India.
This heightened vigilance and the leaders’ messages reflect the government’s focus on national security and progress as the nation celebrates its constitution and freedoms.
