Stunning Guwahati Carnage: India’s Dominance Over New Zealand Ahead of T20 World Cup

India showcased a stunning display of dominance in Guwahati, defeating New Zealand by eight wickets in the third T20I, thus securing the five-match series just days before the World Cup.

Batting first at the Barsapara Stadium, New Zealand struggled to establish their rhythm against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Early wickets disrupted their momentum, forcing the visitors into a lengthy rebuilding phase throughout the innings. Glenn Phillips led the charge with a resilient 48 off 40 balls, while Mark Chapman added a quick 32. Contributions from Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell helped push the total past 150, yet New Zealand was limited to 153 for 9, a score that seemed inadequate on a favorable batting pitch.

India’s bowlers maintained tight control, skillfully using variations in the middle overs to prevent New Zealand from gaining any late momentum.

The run chase was nothing short of remarkable. India attacked from the outset, dismantling the New Zealand bowling effort and effectively concluding the match during the Powerplay. Despite the early wicket of Sanju Samson, the Indian team maintained their aggressive approach as Abhishek Sharma unleashed a breathtaking performance, scoring 68 not out off just 20 balls. Alongside him, captain Suryakumar Yadav, returning to form, contributed a fluent 57 not out, marking his second consecutive half-century.

India chased down the target in just 10 overs, finishing at 155 for 2 and setting the record for the fastest successful chase against New Zealand in T20 internationals-no team had previously achieved a chase of this magnitude in under 10 overs against the Kiwis.

This victory further underscores India’s impressive dominance at home. Since 2022, they have won 10 consecutive bilateral series against Full Member teams, highlighting the depth and consistency that instills fear in their opponents.

With the World Cup on the horizon, India’s timing couldn’t be better. Records fell, the captain proved his resurgence, and Guwahati witnessed a performance that is sure to instill dread in any rivals currently watching the unfolding drama.
