Authorities in the East Karbi Anglong district have initiated a significant eviction operation aimed at clearing encroachers from 350 bighas of government irrigation land in the Bakulia area. This operation influences more than 2,000 families living in over 750 houses. It began early Tuesday morning and has thus far proceeded without incidents, as many residents had emptied the land before the eviction following prior notices issued by officials.

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) is managing this operation, which seeks to reclaim government land designated for irrigation purposes that has been encroached upon over time. Officials noted that a considerable number of settlers voluntarily vacated their occupied areas ahead of the scheduled eviction, aiding in the smooth execution of the drive.

To ensure law and order during the operation, over 500 police personnel have been deployed to the site. This security force includes units from both Karbi Anglong and East Karbi Anglong districts, with the Superintendent of Police closely overseeing the situation.

Local authorities have stressed that residents were informed well in advance through official eviction notices, granting them ample time to seek alternative accommodations. The cooperative attitude exhibited by numerous families has contributed to the orderly nature of the operation till now.

This eviction marks one of the larger land reclamation efforts undertaken by the district administration recently, highlighting ongoing commitments to eliminate encroachments from government land designated for public use.
