
Gyanendra Khatiwada Receives Prestigious Badrinarayan Pradhan Memorial Award
Senior poet Gyanendra Khatiwada was honored with the 15th Badrinarayan Pradhan Memorial Award during a ceremony held on Sunday at Bakrakote in Dooars. This prestigious annual Nepali literary award is established by a foundation dedicated to the celebrated writer Badrinarayan Pradhan. The award includes a shawl, a citation, and a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
The event featured Dr. Sujata Rani Rai, registrar of Darjeeling Hill University, as the chief guest. Dr. Mohan P Dahal, the convenor of the award selection committee, chaired the ceremony where both figures presented the award to Khatiwada.
Prominent authors, poets, educators, social workers, and dignitaries from regions including the Darjeeling hills, Kalimpong, Dooars, Siliguri, and Sikkim attended the occasion, highlighting the significance of the event within the literary community.
In his acceptance speech, Khatiwada expressed his joy and gratitude for receiving the distinguished accolade. Hailing from Salbari near Sukna, he has contributed to the literary world as a teacher in Siliguri. Khatiwada has published two collections of Nepali poetry and has had his stories featured in various regional publications, further solidifying his place in the literary landscape.
