GANGTOK: A preparatory meeting took place at the Education Department conference hall, led by Sonam Choppel Sherpa, chairman of the Students Welfare Board. The meeting aimed to discuss the planning and organization of the 2nd Sikkim Art and Literature Festival, set for March 2026. Key aspects addressed during the gathering included selecting an appropriate venue, inviting prominent writers and poets, and developing strategies to enhance the reading culture among students and the general public in Sikkim. This festival is envisioned as a vital platform for literary exchange, creative expression, and intellectual engagement, particularly among the youth, according to a press release issued on Saturday.
The discussions aligned with the broader vision of the Sikkim government, which seeks to nurture art, culture, and literature while promoting reading habits across all segments of society, guided by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). The meeting was attended by several senior officials and dignitaries, including Tashi Choppel, secretary of the Education Department; Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister; Reewaj Chettri, OSD to the Chief Minister; Sanjay Dilpali Rai, chairman of the Art and Heritage Board; and Kiran Dahal, an official from the Education Department.
All attendees contributed valuable insights and proposals to ensure that the 2nd Sikkim Art and Literature Festival is inclusive, impactful, and reflective of Sikkim’s rich literary and cultural legacy.
