CPI(M) Stands Firm: Protest Against VB G RAM G Gains Momentum
Agartala, January 9, 2026: The Left Front is preparing to launch a protest against the VB G RAM G Act, as announced today by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] during a press conference at the party’s state office. Jitendra Chaudhury, the state secretary and Leader of the Opposition, expressed strong opposition to the government’s initiative.
Chaudhury emphasized the significance of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), which has provided crucial employment by guaranteeing 100 days of work since independence. He criticized the Modi-led government for undermining MNREGA from the outset, stating that in Tripura, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has further worsened the situation through negligence, hindering the rural economy.
He noted that while the law remained intact for the past 11 years, the government is now attempting to abolish it in favor of the VB G RAM G Act. Chaudhury accused the administration of trying to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the program, reflecting what he termed “extreme disrespect” toward the leader.
The government claims that the new law will extend workdays from 100 to 125; however, Chaudhury dismissed this assertion as “completely false,” pointing out that prior commitments made by the government have not been honored.
In light of these developments, all organizations within the Left Front have resolved to conduct a grassroots campaign, reaching out to every household. The party’s demands include the repeal of the VB G RAM G Act, the reinstatement of MNREGA, a commitment to provide 200 days of work, and an increased wage of Rs 600 per worker.
