Dibrugarh University to Welcome 150 International Writers: A Literary Extravaganza!
Guwahati: Assam is set to enhance its status as a burgeoning center for global literary dialogue with the upcoming third edition of the Dibrugarh University International Literature Festival (DUILF). Scheduled for February 18, the festival will welcome over 150 writers, poets, and speakers from 25 countries, as announced by organizers on Friday.
Among the notable attendees are esteemed authors such as Ann Morgan, known for her book A Year of Reading the World, Djiboutian novelist Abdourahman Waberi, South Korean writer Kyung-sook Shin, Indian literary figure Yesse Dorei Thongchi, Australian author Gideon Haigh, and Egyptian novelist Mai Khaled, among others.
The festival, organized by Dibrugarh University in partnership with the Foundation for Culture, Arts, and Literature (FOCAL), a non-profit based in Guwahati, will last four days and aims to further solidify India’s presence on the international literary stage.
In addition to prominent authors, the festival plans to feature storytellers, performers, and cultural practitioners, with an expected attendance of 10,000 to 12,000 literary enthusiasts.
DUILF 2026 will offer a variety of engaging activities, including author discussions, panel talks covering poetry, fiction, and international issues, as well as sessions focused on film and sports, readings, workshops, and community-led cultural events.
Rahul Jain, curator and chief coordinator of DUILF, emphasized that the festival serves as a vital meeting point for diverse literary voices and the cultural creativity of Northeast India. “The 2026 edition deepens this dialogue by incorporating Middle Eastern and North African stories, facilitating discussions with young audiences, students, and readers,” he remarked.
British author Ann Morgan, attending DUILF for the third time, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival’s unique platform for meaningful exchange. “It’s rare to see such a diverse array of international voices engage with young people in this manner. The warmth and hospitality of Assam foster lasting connections, opening hearts and minds,” she noted.
