Aimed at readers, researchers, students, professionals, and institutions, this publication serves as a reliable reference, providing verified information, concise analyses, and strong archival value-elements that underscore the newspaper’s tradition of credibility and responsible journalism.
The publication describes the Yearbook as a meaningful step toward preserving contemporary history. The first edition emphasizes the newspaper’s commitment to providing an authoritative annual account of the significant events that shaped the past year. In addition to this, Sahitya-Prakash, the literary publishing arm of The Assam Tribune Private Limited, has released an outstanding anthology titled Gariyoshir Nirbachita Galpa-1. This book was unveiled on the first day of the new year at the fair, drawing interest from both readers and literary enthusiasts.
The anthology features 40 carefully curated short stories selected from a total of 547 original pieces published during the first decade of Gariyoshi, an esteemed Assamese literary magazine founded in October 1993 by prominent writer and journalist Chandra Prasad Saikia. Gariyoshi, part of the Sahitya-Prakash initiative, has significantly contributed to Assam’s literary and cultural landscape over the years.
Organized by seniority, the anthology includes works from celebrated Assamese authors, such as Umakanta Sarma, Gobinda Chandra Poira, Syed Abdul Malik, and Nirupama Borgohain, among others. Several stories featured in this anthology have previously won the prestigious All India Katha Award, with Gariyoshi itself receiving accolades for publishing these notable works.
Dedicated to the memory of the late Prafulla Govinda Baruah, a Padma Shri awardee and a significant figure in Assamese journalism, the anthology has been compiled by Hiranya Kumar Barman on behalf of Sahitya-Prakash. Interested readers can purchase the book at The Assam Tribune stall (Stall No. 109, third lane from the right) during the ongoing Assam Book Fair at Khanapara.
