Chief Minister Golay’s Inspiring Visit to Gaya’s Mahabodhi Temple
Chief Minister P.S. Golay embarked on a visit to the sacred city of Gaya today, where he offered prayers at the renowned Mahabodhi Temple. This historic site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is especially revered as the location where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. During his visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by the 12th Goshri Gyaltsab Rinpoche, which added to the significance of the occasion.
Describing the experience as profoundly serene and blessed, Golay expressed that praying at the holy site filled him with humility and devotion. According to a release from his office, he sought the compassionate blessings of Lord Buddha for peace, harmony, and the collective well-being of Sikkim and its people as the state prepares to enter the New Year 2026.
While in Gaya, the Chief Minister also participated in the ongoing Sakya Monlam, a religious ceremony being held in the grounds of the Mahabodhi Temple. Here, he prayed in the presence of both the 42nd Kyabgon Gongma Trizin Ratna Vajra Rinpoche and Avikrita Vajra Sakya Rinpoche.
In addition to these activities, Golay’s trip coincides with his attendance at the sacred Red Vajra Crown ceremony, along with a long-life empowerment being conferred by the 12th Goshri Gyaltsab Rinpoche on January 3. This pilgrimage underscores the spiritual commitment of the Chief Minister and highlights the cultural importance of Gaya within the Buddhist community.
