Four Arrested in Shocking Housewife’s Mysterious Death Investigation
Imphal: Four suspects have been detained by the Manipur Police in connection with the suspicious death of Khaidem (Ongbi Chanambam) Chaoba Devi, a 27-year-old housewife, in Thiyam Leishangkhong, falling under the Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district. Initially, authorities apprehended the deceased’s husband, Khaidem Nareshwor (29), and his mother, Khaidem (Ongbi) Indira. Both are residents of Wangoi Mamang Khaidem Leikai in the same district.
On Sunday, police arrested two additional suspects: Moirangthem Dhanajit (28), a resident of Langathel Bazar currently living in Nongpok Keithelmanbi Awang Leikai, and Sh Kananbala Devi, also known as Dhaneshwori (41), from Yairipok Wangkhem in Thoubal district. The suspects were later presented before a magistrate and have been remanded to police custody until January 5.
Chaoba Devi was discovered dead under unclear circumstances on December 27, near her home at Thiyam Leishangkhong, after having been reported missing the night before. Following her death, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) was established, leading to a sit-in protest at the Iramsiphai Leirak Ashangba Community Hall on December 28. The protestors demanded the arrest of those responsible for Chaoba Devi’s death.
JAC convenor S Sanajaoba voiced concerns over potential foul play in her death and urged law enforcement to conduct a comprehensive investigation. He emphasized that Chaoba Devi’s body, currently at the RIMS Hospital mortuary in Imphal, will remain unclaimed until justice is achieved.
