Inspector Minli Geyi has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in recognition of his extraordinary courage and dedication, as announced by officials on December 28. This promotion comes in the wake of a violent incident that occurred at Seppa District Hospital in East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh, on November 14, 2024, during which Inspector Geyi suffered significant injuries while protecting civilians from an attacker.
The alarming incident unfolded in the afternoon when a man named Nikam Sangbia, from Sangbia village under Bameng police station, suddenly began assaulting civilians inside the hospital without any provocation. The violent attack caused panic among patients, hospital staff, and their attendants, resulting in multiple casualties.
As the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Seppa police station, Inspector Geyi swiftly intervened to control the situation and shield the civilians from harm. Unfortunately, he sustained serious injuries during this act of bravery and was later transferred to Itanagar for advanced medical treatment due to the severity of his wounds.
In acknowledging Geyi’s selfless actions, senior police officials emphasized that his prompt response not only mitigated further loss of life but also showcased exemplary bravery under extreme circumstances. The decision to promote him to the rank of DSP reflects this acknowledgment of his presence of mind and commitment to duty.
The local community and police colleagues have widely welcomed this promotion, lauding Inspector Geyi as a symbol of commitment and sacrifice in the service of public safety.
